This is the just announced VW T-Roc R. Yes, it’s a crossover, but it powered by the 296 horsepower motor and 7 speed DSG from the Golf R and that makes it okay in my eyes.
The T-Roc R won’t be making its journey across the ocean, this vehicle will not be sold in the US, unfortunately. With the crossover craze, I could see the T-Roc fitting in VW’s US lineup nicely since the Tiguan is quite large for a compact crossover.
VW claims the T-Roc R will hit 62 MPH in a brisk 4.9 seconds. Funky colored interior accents and sport seats also come with the R version on the T-Roc.
What do you think of this new hot hatch crossover?

Well, if you just lower it, it would be perfect.
And, erm, I guess it would just be a Golf R with a sloped hatch then, now, wouldn’t it?

No, it’s not.

is that what we’re doing now? Measuring 0-62mph?
My car hits 0-75-0 in one state trooper.

wont be going to the states?
oh goddamnit... i figured it was just for yous
now i’ll have to deal with them

62mph = 100kph. Most european cars measure 0-100kph instead of 0-60mph.

It’s a ( marginally) shorter, heavier, taller and more expensive than an equivalent Golf. It even has a shorte r wheel base than the Golf (hatch) .

Ford Edge ST competitor? Wonder what platform it’s on, (current Tiguan guts but sportier body and hotter version of the 2.0 motor?)

Crossovers for everyone!

DSG, Cool. Pick one.

oh! well now... that makes more sense. I take back my comment. ignore please

Yep. I personally like the stubbiness of this car, but a regular Golf R makes better sense. I guess in a world of 140hp crossover, I consider this a small victory.

So, they’re testing this as the eventual SQ3? Or is there an SQ3 overseas already?
![]() 02/25/2019 at 15:54 |

Probably some sort of version of the MQB platform since literally every VW seems to use that. Not really a Edge ST competitor since it’s much smaller (think Hyundai Kona size) and won’t be sold in the US.

Yea.....still a solid No from me.
If y
ou cross anything over from hatch to coupe to SUV to whatever
, don’t bother selling it till its crossed over completely into the other thing.

SQ3 hasn’t been released yet, but there has been spy shots of it.

Welp I picked DSG on my GTI so I guess I’ll make my exit haha

I don’t disagree!

That’s right, I thought I’d seen or heard of them not too long ago but wasn’t sure.

The Audi SQ2 was released recently and is basically a T-Roc R
![]() 02/25/2019 at 16:01 |
|
Nope. The T-Roc is even shorter than the Golf.

Thanks for the info!

It took Volkswagen 10+ years to catch up to the 3 row SUV trend, give them another 3 to catch up to the Compact SUV trend.

Facts.

I like the idea of it, really - it just seems like a Golf R is better in every possible way, given duurtlangs comments.

Why can’t they just put this engine in the Alltrack and call it done?
![]() 02/25/2019 at 16:46 |
|
Just say no.
![]() 02/25/2019 at 16:47 |

I would be so about that.

Oz has been confirmed for both the T-Roc and the smaller Polo based T-Cro ss. But not until this time next year. Sub $30k for the Cross and sub $40k for the Roc. Roc- R is no shoe-in because our 91 RON fuel still has a high maximum sulphur standard (up to 150 ppm) which the R engine can't deal with from an emissions standpoint.
They'll sell more Cross than Roc because the Roc starts bleeding into Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace...

Europe already gets an R wagon. I’d be fine with the same thing just a bit taller
![]() 02/25/2019 at 17:30 |

Bringing this to the US makes every bit of sense. But it could spell doom for the Alltrack so I’m okay with it’s absence
![]() 02/25/2019 at 18:07 |
|
That’s a very good point. Like one other said, Alltrack R needs to happen.
![]() 02/25/2019 at 19:32 |

But we already get it, as a Macan.
41 grand?
I mean...right?
![]() 02/25/2019 at 20:07 |

Now that’s a deal!

We get the RSQ3 in Mexico with the 5 pot turbo. Ballistic little turtle.

Doesn’t almost everyone that is not the US? There are not that many countries left that still use legacy units like miles.
